A U.S. company says it has developed a way to create the stem cells without harming the original embryo, which the Vatican holds is a full-fledged human life. The breakthrough technique was meant to answer critics at the papal palace.

If people are foolish enough to allow science to be set back by this nonsense, then they should be put on a register that disallows them the use of stem cell advancements in the future. Then they will know the consequences suffered by those who are waiting for cures today, while they encouraged a political climate which denied those people a chance. That includes the 'pope.'

Just give it time. The Catholic Church has been dying for years. It's just a matter of time. Religion is a horrible thing, in my humble oppinion.

GreenBudPacker: I second what you said about medical science being set back by the Catholic Church. Look what they did to Galileo when he had proven that the Sun was at the center of our solar system.

The average peasant in Europe during the dark ages never learns to read or write and never traveled on average more than 25 miles from the place of their birth.

The church dictated their life from birth to death and they had to take the priest’s word about the bible and all the sermons were mostly in Latin, which only the holy order spoke amongst them to keep the masses ignorant.

I feel that the industrial revolution would have come 200 years earlier and we would be exploring the solar system and planning our first missions to the stars.

Funny that there is no evidence that thus far that stem cells help any of the ailments they are claiming it will cure.

Did you know that they can harvest stem cells from any living tissue in the human body? You can get functional stem cells from adipost tissue.

The rats they have injected with embryonic stem cells during research trials have died of ravaging cancers soon there after. Sounds like the birth pangs of success to me!

Who cares what the vatican thinks. Saving lives is the right thing to do and so is embryonic stem cell research.
