While even some Nasa scientists believe we never went to the moon because of technology, and what we didn't know about massive radiation waves and it's effects in space beyond our atmosphere, I believe there is a very good chance we actually did go to the moon, but we never taped the real episode on video, because we couldn't transmit it back to earth, basically we didn't know how to do that at the time, that far. I think we'd have problems today even with the help of satellites.
Nixon decided it was in the worlds best interest that we saw everything as it should have been, and after he learned that we actually couldn't film it live and send a feed back to earth in his dying hour, in short, his cronies suggested and decided on film maker Stanley Kubrick to film the whole sequence as it would unfold, to show a very anxious nation if in fact video transmissions didn't work, and especially the Russians, we needed to prove we were there and we beat the them to it proof positive.

Cont.
When it became apparent that there was never any "live" video, only passing footage which was shot buy Kubrick as well, they ran the rest of the pre-made film and broadcast it, and it popped on tv, just as he heads down the last step on the ladder, probably after he actually did it.
Also one has to think, what if he exploded when he touched the surface, or there was a problem or an explosion on board? Too much they didn't know also to let us see reality. This IS the government we are talking about here.
Fact: There is no wind on the moon, yet the flag waves many times from air swirling about them on the video.
Fact: We have been told that moon surface dust is more similar to our sandy beaches than clay and dirt, there would not have been a single footprint left, yet we have many there, supposedly.
Fact: There is clearly no rocket blast hole or "gouge" underneath the lunar module after it had landed, as the ground underneath is clearly undisturbed.

I am a contractor. I did several projects at NASA at Moffet Field in Northern California. I was working once and this one man was looking at me with what I saw was a condensating look. I asked him what he did. He said he was an "Engineer". I asked again, "So what do you do?" Once again he said he was an "Engineer". It took a while, but I finaly got it out of him. "Facilities Engineer". (He cleaned the bathrooms). Guess how much he made with full benefits. Everyone at NASA is an "Engineer". Welfare workers with a title. We are lucky that one of them even noticed that the tapes were missing! I have other stories about what a joke that place is, if anyone cares to know.

Plus, I odubt they were "high quality"
VHS at best, which by now, even if properly stored are degraded.
now , IF they had betamax back then, well Maybe just maybe...
I just hope someone digitized them.
I know some stock footage libraries have some of the footage. maybe they can sell it back to nasa....

Somebody probably has a cassette copy(s) of these tapes in their attic or basement, and if found it will be deteriorating. Someone will try to restore it. The stock footage you are talking about is most likely from the feed we've all seen broadcast, but you never know . . .! Keep checking eBay.

Here's a ("BARREL") of laughs
The tapes are hidden in a safe place. Find Jimmy Hoffa and you'll find the tapes.

It's SAD:
That someone like leftturn still believes that "we never went" to the moon even though scientists debunk one-by-one the points made. Of course this story will stimulate more discussion of a "hoax."
It's SAD:
That probably some NASA honcho on a clean up binge gave an order and workers just blindly followed it and threw all kinds of stuff, including these tapes and who knows what else, in the dumpsters. (see truthdetectors' comment)
It's SAD:
That the public perception of NASA, from the fatal accidents on the ground and in the air and all the stories which have come out about its culture, are fed anew by this story. I'm sure that there are very passionate and competant engineers and scientists who really care about science and space exploration working at NASA, but such complex and expensive undertakings also require so much support that mere mortals like the rest of us also get involved. con't

cont: But it can be HAPPY! After all that, it is still absolutely amazing what these projects have successfully done, and what we have learned about the universe. We can also learn that even at these lofty levels, human beings are not perfect.
I still think these tapes may be found, probably after we have forgotten about this story.
