In 1981, after four years of testing at the McDonnell labs, Edwards and Shaw held a press conference in New York City with Discover magazine. The pair of famous psychics made an announcement which left their audience agape. Mike Edwards told the crowd, "The truth is, we are not psychics. We are magicians."
