With so much bad news regarding the environment, this is one bright spot, one success story. 10,000 nesting couples this year versus 400 couples 40 years ago...Not sure that warrants coming off the list, but the bald eagle has special status.

It would be so embarrassing if our (U.S.) national bird became extinct. Great news

This is horrible news for the entire nation. Even with the rebound of nesting couples, they should have remained on the Endangered list. I know they have protected status, but I fear some nitwit in the GW admin will try something stupid like creating a Tyson Eagle plant. Yeah, I can see it now, a car in every garage and an eagle in every pot. MMMM, Kentucky Fried Eagle.

Someone stop the Bushies before these twisted idea become reality.

The bald eagle is still protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940.

          I have mixed feelings.

In a way this is a sad day since it will be easier to develop around their nests, but yet it is a happy day to no longer be endangered.
