Interesting.

It reinforces my belief in God. How else could such a complex system work in such synchronization??? Just Amazing!

Ummm, it's called "gravity"

The artice said that htere was nothing with a gravitational pull nearby. And how do you think gravity came to be?

To save you the effort of going back to re-read it, I did.

--------

The team discovered that the ring's orbit was linked to that of the major moon Mimas. For every seven times the arc orbited Saturn, Mimas, which is about 15,000km away, completed six orbits.

"When you get this kind of whole number ratio, there can be some strange things called resonances that occur. These can have interesting influences and can actually confine material within the ring," said Dr Hedman.

The scientists believe the bright arc of material is being held in place through an interaction with Mimas.

That is cool! I actually understood most of that!

Me too

There is only one problem with this theory. The same effect seems to be in progress with most spiral galaxies like our own. There are NO moons large enough to keep such a saturnian hold, SO, invisible, theoretical, "Dark Matter" get's credit. :)

My question is WHO GIVES A CRAP!!! How mush cash is spent by our governmnet for things that don't mean a thing!! It just won't ever matter. Our soldiers are dying, our country is on the brink of disaster and we are worried about rings around saturn?? Christ people get a life. And to not2needy I agree with you 100% When we say only in a perfect world. We are in a perfect world. Population and government aside. The sun comes up each day, the oceans, lakes, rivers, I could go on and on!! Only one being could ever make something like that!! That perfect. God is good!!

Awsom post, just a reminder to the so called "civilized intellects" how minute and insignificant we are in this Universe.

I believe your 'civilized intellects' are the very first to acknowledge that. Wasn't Carl Sagan a civilized intellect? Ever heard of 'Pale Blue Dot'? Who are you talking about anyway?

Yep, a perfect balance of "Dark Matter". Two much "Dark Matter" and the galaxies shrink up into black holes. To little and they fly a part. Oh, by the way, there are MILLIONS of perfectly balanaced spiral galaxies If I were an atheist, though, "Dark Matter" would be my name for God.

This weekend is your last chance to see three planets in our early evening sky. Go out and face west where the Sun disappeared as it begins to grow dark. Close to the western horizon, you'll see a very bright star. That's Venus, and it's racing between the Earth and the Sun at over 75,000 mph. Near Venus to the right, you'll see two bright stars. The bottom one is Saturn, and by next week both planets will be too close to the Sun to see. Venus will be between the Earth and the Sun, and Saturn will be on the other side of the Sun from Earth's point of view. Venus will shoot up from the eastern horizon before dawn by the end of the month, but it will take several weeks for Saturn to make its appearance in the early morning sky.......

Ah, three planets. Look west and see Venus and Saturn. Then, look down and see Earth? 'just messin' with you. Is Jupiter the third one? I've got a tide chart that shows planetary movements, but I'm not sure I understand it, exactly. Next weekend, according to the chart, an annual meteor shower, the Pleides (sp?) will be very visible.

then tomorrow.. Jupiter's Great Red Spot should cross Jupiter's central meridian (the imaginary line down the center of the planet's disk from pole to pole) around 9:53 p.m. eastern daylight time. the "red" spot is pale orange. it should be visible for at least 50 minutes before and after in a good 4-inch telescope if the atmospheric seeing is sharp and steady. a light blue or green filter helps.....

so freaking what?

Starwalker - if it wasn't for the technology developed by our space programs, you wouldn't be able to declare to the world what an idiot you are

True. And, ironic that a Sci-Fi fan would have no interest in science.
