"Madin said the specimens they collected included several possibly newly discovered species. One was a sea cucumber that is nearly transparent which could swim by bending its elongated body. Another was a black jellyfish found near the sea floor."

"The most striking creature found was a spiny orange-colored worm that had 10 tentacles like a squid, Madin said. "We don't know what it is ... it might be something new."

"He said it would take "a few more weeks" of research to determine whether the species are newly discovered. He expects to release a report by early next month."

And yet, in all likelihood thousands of undiscovered species are still waiting to be found in this part of the ocean. It's mind boggling to think about the biodiversity of certain ecologic systems. And it's imperative for humanity that we fight to preserve them.

Never ceases to amaze me what they find in the ocean and the places that creatures can actually live.

I heard that if you lick the back of the worm you can see god.

What a world of diversity. I'm glad we were able to develop the technology to catalog a bit of it before our technological development wiped it all out.

Hey "ghostwhobalks"...I'll be sure to send a jellyfish to you so you can get a sample if it's sting, & see if you like it then dum-dum.

Makes one wonder how many millions (literally) of species have yet to be discovered in the world.

God is quite the artist. I LOVE this stuff. Cute cow fish. When they're small, they look like little swimming crutons with toothpicks sticking out of them. Very cute.

Well...Who would've guessed we'd have these kinds of species here in the Philippines. Pretty diverse, eh? The smallest fishes can be found here too!

Bomber buddy - in Australia they have a jelly fish called a Box Jelly Fish - it is very small but it is one of the most deadly creatures on earth. They put jelly fish barriers off the beach but these little ****ers can get through the netting.
