An epic drought in Georgia threatens the water supply for millions. Florida doesn't have nearly enough water for its expected population boom. The Great Lakes are shrinking. Upstate New York's reservoirs have dropped to record lows. And in the West, the Sierra Nevada snowpack is melting faster each year.

Great article, of course I am sure man made global warming caused the Atlantic to warm up back then as well. Couldn't just be natural cycles in the environment? Thanks for sharing Jim.

Here in Michigan I hear a lot of screaming about keeping our water "OUR WATER". Heaven forbid someone stop us from letting trillions of gallons disappear over Niagra Falls! Lakes Michigan and Huron are dropping rather allarmingly and it only took some Geniuses how many decades to realise that when you dredge the Detroit River for easier shipping, water flows downhill faster through the wider "Hole". I guesse a dam and locks are just too much trouble to conserve this natural resource.

There are multiple locks around Niagra Falls. This is not what is causing the drop in the lakes.

The reason for the "alarming" drop in the Great Lakes is due to the mild winters we have been having and the lack of snow fall. The lakes are higher now then they were in the early 60's and that was higher then they were in the late 20's and early 30's. The weather goes through cycles and so do our lakes.

Other states down stream might be a little alarmed to hear that you want to cut off their source of water through the Saint Lawrence seaway.

I understand the whole thing about natural cycles and all, but recent studies have shown that dredging in the Detroit river have allowed more water to drain from Lake Huron down into Lake Erie. I'm not advocating shutting off the flow, just a weir and locks to maintain the natural levels. Sorry if my using the word "dam" in the earlier posting caused any misconceptions.

Watch out for the Neocon fascists who are starting to buy up water rights to try to screw the American people by gouging them for food and water when the ecological crisis they have been fostering starts REALLY hitting us hard.

          Fight them.
