Some government scientists have complained that officials at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History took steps to downplay global warming in a 2006 exhibit on the Arctic to avoid a political backlash, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

It's GOOD for the Americans who are still covering their eyes with their hands that their hands be PULLED from their faces...

They were right to be cautious ... It's not proven yet.

To do anything else could turn out to be mis-leading or downright false.

The only people it's not "proven" to are those who don't look at the science but instead depend on some talking-head to tell them what ideology to spout and what to believe.

        FTA

Bill Fitzhugh, director of the Smithsonian's Arctic Studies Center, suggested the idea, writing in an e-mail, "It seems silly not to include the arctic, where climate research has been so productive and so prominent, and where the impacts of change also include humans."

In an interview, Fitzhugh said that from the beginning, the exhibit was meant to focus on anthropology, not the climate.

"We were not doing an exhibit on modern climate formation," Fitzhugh said. "There are some things we can't do easily because we're in the political limelight. We have to walk a difficult line."

I'm confused, gama, that you neged my post, when I think what I said was what your quote from Fitzhugh said. Maybe I didn't say it as well.

          Not complaining, just curious.

Now I see you gave crespi a positive, so I guess you think the Smithsonian should have taken a stand for "people caused" global warming.

Once again politics trumps science. In this administration scientists are wrong and BushCorps is right.

Just because there is uncertainty that doesn't mean that we shouldn't continue the lowering of human additions to the natural cycles. I don't see making a federal case out of this instance.

Shouldn't this be tagged as Humor?

Perhaps you all don't realize that the VP of the US always sits on the board of the Smithsonian.

I expect that they should also provide a diorama of Adam and Eve's family hunting Brontosauri and fighting of Velociraptors.

I thought the Bible Literalists (read "Nutjobs") believed that fossils were God's way of testing faith.

Meanwhile, conservative think tanks claimed that "climate exhibit change" is "unproven science."

I don't see what the problem here is.

Whether you believe in the severity of global climate change or it's causes it doesn't change the fact that there is uncertainty to what the results will be. The Smithsonian is a prestigious museum with a reputation to uphold so it seems they did what they thought was in the best interest in the accuracy of the display.

Try not to blow little things out of proportion.

The Administratin is so deeply invested in spin mastering that they actually seem to believe that not just politics, but the physical universes can be turned around by spin.
