From what I heard she was broke. I imagine if she had the money these other(baseball) guys had she would have never admitted steroids and if she did she would recieve no jail time. Just my opinion.

oh my god.. she is a lying cheater.. victor conti pointed a finger at her years ago and she threatened to sue him.. now who is laughing?.. she should have gotten 10 years in my opinion.. as well as losing her medals, boo hoo, the women who ran in the relays with her should lose their medals too.. then let them administer a good ol fashion a$$ whooping on her, perhaps then she will get the gravity of her lying cheating ways. forgiving her and showing mercy on her is the wrong thing to do.. i feel however for her children.. they will suffer way more that the liar will.

So what if Marion Jones lied to a federal investigator about using steroids. It was none of his business. It is less of a crime than smoking, which harms others.

Of all the problems in the world, this steroid use thing ranks really low on the priority list as far as I am concerned. True, she broke the rules and I guess taking her medals was appropriate. But lying to a federal investigator? Why are the feds wasting time on this stuff? We have Sibel Edmonds disclosing facts about high level govt officials selling US nuclear secrets and no one investigates. Bush and all start an illegal war and no one investigates. People held in prison for over 6 years in Gitmo with no habeas corpus and no one investigates. Torture prisons around the world and no one investigates. I could go on but you get the picture. But if some athletes use performance enhancing drugs its this big deal that apparently gets the feds panties all in a tizzie. Give me a break. Even though Marion did use steroids, she had to do all of the hard work and training. She's got a lot more courage and ethics IMHO than many of our fine politicos. Prison time would be ridiculous.

One could only wonder if you would also say to your 17 year old son, "Go ahead and take steroids, it will give you an advantage over the kids who don't"
She won medals by using a banned substance. Her medals were forfeited. She then lied to a federal prosecutor. If you lie to the feds, they will come down hard on you to make that an example for the next guy.
She knew the rules and broke them. Then she compounded the issue by lying about it. 6 months is light for a habitual criminal.

TOD, I would tell my son that if he chooses to play the game, then he has to follow the rules. I do say that taking her medals was appropriate. From what I read and know, Marion took performance enhancing drugs for 9 months and let's face it, her athletic career was much longer than that.
But my point is not that - it's that there are serious problems in our country right now and those with the power to do something are looking the other way. Instead they are spending time on things like this steroids issue that the feds should not even be involved in. Read about Sibel Edmonds. I am outraged that high level officials had prior knowledge of 9-11 and are selling US nuclear secrets and no one is doing anything about it.

All this drug enhancement stuff puzzles me. I assume that what she took (or how she got it) was illegal under either federal or state law and not just banned by her sport's governing body. Otherwise who cares?
I guess I wonder about what philosophy we use to define the limits. No drugs at all? Most of us have probably used Tylenol to get through a yucky day. As a couch spectator, I can live with the Olympics saying "You don't use X because it's against my rules." But the spirit of the present day is certainly counter to that kind of edict.

With radical Muslims infesting our country, Millions of Mexican illegal immigrants stealing from our medical and education systems daily (and selling illegal drugs to children), and with an election coming up that could change America forever, don't we have better things to do than to go after a mother who messed up?
She has children, for goodness sakes. It is not as if she killed anyone, or poses a threat to society. Gosh, she did not even steal those checks, nor was she going to cash them. Okay, she put something harmful into her body, go to any local bar, and you'll see a lot worse. And my word, do we REALLY put people in JAIL for cheating while playing games? Moms, Hide your children, fast!

Only hope for your country is to make drug possession and use a CRIME and not a TREATMENT issue.
Look at Malayasia, Indonesia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia. They execute drug traffickers and users.
Or go the Netherlands way, make it legal.

Jail time? Just strip her of her medals, reputation, endorsements and fine her. They wasted enough taxpayer dollars in investigation, prosecution and now we have to house her for 6 months??

Boo-hoo for her. She cheated the silver medalists out of their awards, recognition, glory, and place in history. What a dirt bag. Six months in prison cannot undo that.

I have no sympathy for her or any of the drug using athletes.
I think the jail time for her is a result of the check writing scheme she was involved with not the drug use. My comments to Ms. Jones รข;; do the time, change your life, the way you see your self and stop the race excuse for your life.
