Posted by: _kam0_ 7 months, 2 weeks agoHoneybees will die out in Britain within a decade as virulent diseases and parasites spread through the nation's hives. Whole colonies of bees are already being wiped out, with current methods of pest control unable to stop the problem.

I wonder if humans will continue with genetic modification and manipulation of Mother Nature.....
By all means clone your food, that way one strain of bacteria or virus will kill the whole herd or crops.
On the other hand I love hunting the woods for fresh squirrel or rabbit since humans have poisoned my fish.

Not so much pesticides where I live but tracheal bee mite and Verroa mite are the main cause for bee decline. Here where I live the honeybee has been declared extinct in the wild. The ones I see are from managed hives.

I don't think that people realize how serious this could (bee?) be.
"Albert Einstein once predicted that if bees were to disappear, man would follow only a few years later.
That hypothesis could soon be put to the test, as a mysterious condition that has wiped half of the honey bee population the United States over the last 35 years appears to be repeating itself in Europe.
The depopulation of bees could have a huge impact on the environment, which is reliant on the insects for pollination. If taken to the extreme, crops, fodder - and therefore livestock - could die off if there are no pollinating insects left."

And this may very well be an answer to the problem. Home cultivation of bees on a small scale in an environment as free from commercial pesticides as possible. Perhaps it may be possible to breed and crossbreed a strain that is resistant to the mites and viruses that are wiping out the large hives.

My front and back yard have been overrun with bees for the last 6 months. My two orange trees that I thought would no longer bear fruit now have almost more oranges than leaves. Nobody has been stung yet. Hopefully they will hang around a little longer.
