Different areas of the brain when taking risk decisions are activated between young adults and older adults and also older adults display a significantly higher rate of selecting safe responses when compared with younger adults. Obviously younger adults make more risky responses than safe responses.

Seems obvious to me that a wisdom factor kicks in as a person gets older. Seeing and hearing of people in similar circumstances modifies a persons outlook on what is considered an acceptable risk.

but did you know that different parts of the brain get activated for the same task like risk taking decisions has you age?

Nice find, pyderi. Thanks for sharing.

I guess I am not at all surprised by this. Older people are going to have a rich history of memories of similar decision points, what was decided, and how that played out. So in consulting all these related memories, it is only to be expected that more areas of the brain would light up, and that the process would take longer.

Well yeah. Why do you think they want the young to be soldiers? Us older vets know what is up. Thats why I listened to my sarge more than my looneytentant.

My sarge had years in service and was pretty savvy. My looneytenant was a 90 day wonder with less field experience than me. LOL

Same thing in life. Listen to a college grad with no life experience and a manager with years of experience. The book may say one thing but reality is another.

Thanks Pyderi! This study is obviously true...We have an old adage:"if youth knew, if age could"...
