Myth of Consensus Explodes: APS Opens Global Warming Debate »
Posted By libsRfunny 2 months, 3 weeks ago in Science & TechnologyThe American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming "incontrovertible."

"Larry Gould, Professor of Physics at the University of Hartford and Chairman of the New England Section of the APS, called Monckton's paper an 'expose of the IPCC that details numerous exaggerations and "extensive errors'
"In an email to DailyTech, Monckton says, 'I was dismayed to discover that the IPCC's 2001 and 2007 reports did not devote chapters to the central "climate sensitivity" question, and did not explain in proper, systematic detail the methods by which they evaluated it. When I began to investigate, it seemed that the IPCC was deliberately concealing and obscuring its method.'
"According to Monckton, there is substantial support for his results, 'in the peer-reviewed literature, most articles on climate sensitivity conclude, as I have done, that climate sensitivity must be harmlessly low.'"
God Damned Deniers!!!! (sarcasm!)

Update 7/17/2008: After publication of this story, the APS responded with a statement that its Physics and Society Forum is merely one unit within the APS, and its views do not reflect those of the Society at large.
YOu moron global warming deniers are at it again.
You didn't read the disclaimer at the bottom of this right wing crap. Its above, not that you'll read it.
There are plenty of physical scientists who not only are global warming flat earth morons, but they are creationists.
There is a sect of physical chemists, who NEVER move fdrom their armchairs, and never go near biology or emperical evidence, the fiddle with mathmetical formula, and are usually funded by religious extremists and are politically right wing.
This scientist was in Margaaret thatchers research cabnet, a right wing oil policy screamer, and Margaret Thatchers Husband was an Oil Man multimillionaire.

Yo Moron Gore-gulpers are at it again. Clearly, you fail to realize the salient point: that the society IS sponsoring debates and acknowledges there is no "consensus."
When will you turn it into another anti-Jew rant?

anti,
And your point is...???
So, ONE UNIT of the APS rejects the notion of 'incontrovertible proof' of global warming, and you think that is a right wing conspiracy?
I'd call it progress!!!
Excuse me, but what has biological evidence got to do with global warming? Are you saying there is NO physical evidence, only biological evidence? You are making AlGore's case sound weaker and weaker, the more you write.
As for 'fiddling with mathematical formula', just what in the world do you think a climate MODEL is? Something that someone built outside, and the kids play with? It's a COMPUTER PROGRAM, for goodness' sake. And you think physicists are less 'scientific' or 'empirical' than computer modellers?
When you consider that these computers models CANNOT properly account for the one substance that makes up 95% of ALL GREENHOUSE GASES - WATER VAPOR - if I were you, I wouldn't be mentioning any lack of empirical evidence, if I were you.
Are you KIDDING ME???

This is the second story I've seen on Monckton today. Pc25 also submitted a story. I guess maybe there is some scientific push-back on the IPCC's findings.
Should be interesting to see if this is a flash in the pan or if the "consensus" will be that Monckton is full of hot air.

This is getting sad I saw the same thing in yahoo answers with deniers there crowing how this disproved GW. Does knowone do even a little research these days the article in question was not peer reviewed it was one of two in an open forum the other was in favor of GW. And for the record Monckton isn't a scientist he is a journalist turned failed politician.

the problem with GW is the facts .this is the one important fact that supporter's of man made GW forget.the earth is not a constant.the earth is at best a ball of chaos, constantly changing, punctuated by moments of catastrophe.with this understood how can we say for certain what is causing it.if this is something we have no control over, and its important that we find out for sure before we do anything, for the only known source of life to survive we are going to have to adapt to the changes.that is Darwin's law.

Sad, but true. Global Warming, Climate change, the Ice Age coming, all a hoax. There is no Scientific consencus that any of that it true. Why do you think Al Gore, and the people like him can use as much of our resources as they want, and buy carbon offsets, without any guilt? Because they know it is a crock of crap. Their study is full of misinformation, and outright lying.

not suprising coming from granni. Your politics determine what you see, hear, think and feel.
again, here it is: Update 7/17/2008: After publication of this story, the APS responded with a statement that its Physics and Society Forum is merely one unit within the APS, and its views do not reflect those of the Society at large.
This is one non scientist right wing moron with a physical chemistry degree, and I've known lots of those ilk, I'd say half of them are creationists, who never took a biochemistry course, they are just fat mathmatics professors with pasty skin, and think with their pencils.

Actually the public statement on the American Physics site clearly says the consensus of the society is that man is effecting the atmosphere. You can find some who will disagree (for a fee usually) in the sense that naysayers are almost entirely employed by firms like Exxon Mobil who stand to have to invest in cleaner ways of doing business if citizens wish to curb man's pollution.
I find it odd that so many defend mans right to pollute. Why not put some energy in to a good way to deal with it other than simply deny and pretend it's a political football?
